We make simply sweet and smooth sounds. While we attempt to finish this huge undertaking called "producing your own album on your own budget using your own skills", we like to check out cool stuff that inspires us. This is what we've found so far.

Just The Way You Are - Bruno Mars (Cover by Blue Summer)
We took advantage of a day off and went into the studio to record this cover of a great song by a great artist. And we also had the help of family this time - the younger brother of Adit, Abi!

Gosh, has it been that long?
It took four working days and forever of my spare time to download a 4.4 GB file!

This is the new definition of value for independent musicians - a music fan’s time. The quote above comes from Annisa, who is a huge fan of Sara Bareilles (so are we!). She downloaded the live concert DVD of Sara Bareilles, even though it is a relatively huge file and takes a long time over medium speed internet connection.
Her post makes me think: it is no longer a fan visiting a record store and purchasing your album in vinyl. It is no longer them purchasing your CD at the local department store. It is them, spending every second of their leisure time, searching and downloading your music via however they can find them and savoring their hard work when the progress bar reaches 100%.
In the heyday of mainstream produced pop, fans showed their loyalty by buying CD’s. But with every aspect of the music industry shifting to a decentralized model - and with music being ubiquitously abundantly available via streaming, download, and offline file-sharing - the main commodity that an artist can appreciate from their fans is their time.
Because with every other choice that’s available at our fingertips (or at our keystrokes), deciding to invest “four working days and forever of their spare time” is a huge sign of loyalty from the fan to the artist.
Thanks for making that clear to us, Nisa. And see you at the Sara Bareilles concert!
Cheers and thanks for the ears,
Endy for Blue Summer
We spent New Year’s Eve at the Dzikir Nasional at Masjid at Tiin. The idea is Frans’, and we did the same last year for 2010 but this time Andre joined in. Adit already had plans with his family, so maybe he’ll join us next year.
Starting a new year, Frans and I brainstormed at the end of December what Blue Summer wants this 2011. Our biggest goal, as we previously mentioned is to finish and release our debut album sometime around the second Tuesday of April. We’re starting to collect the songs already produced, written, and laid out a schedule for the next four months, CD release party included.
That’s why we’ve been minim on the updates lately - we’re just so much in the music right now! Which is exactly where we need to be, and where YOU want us to be. Because after this busy time is through, we can share the music we make with YOU.
So many thoughts, so many ideas, so many good music we just found, and so much we want to share; but for now this picture is enough and we hope you stay with us as we excuse ourselves into the woodwork for a little while.
Cheers and thanks for the ears,
Endy for Blue Summer
P.S: Notice Frans’ new hair-do?

This weeks recommended listening:
[1] Aimee Mann - How Am I Different

Poor musicians, we are.
The keyboard is borrowed from Natya Ayu, the guitars from Widi Asmoro and Yonathan Vanco.
We had a prior performance earlier in the day using the same equipment.
Only this time, we also played sound engineers for the venue.
Thank God for musical friends!

She was in the middle of a two-day hypnosis training session.
We picked her up at the American Club at Dharmawangsa after the first day, and she needed to reserve energy for the next morning.
Which is why she only had time to perform one song, our hit song, but it was one of our best performances!

We stayed up until 02.00 A.M to practice - since we didn’t have a second before - which is probably one of the reasons why his voice started thinning out in the morning.
But even so, we were told that it was a beautiful performance, and even sang a few songs where the audience sang along!
*Personally, I think it was the Batik that saved us!

♫ I would have lived it all with you,
I would have loved it only you,
I would have learned the things I need to learn,
and say the things to say ~♫
Always wins the crowd.
Catch us in our next performance!
